These 4th of July strawberries are a variation of white chocolate-dipped strawberries but without the candy melts and with a patriotic flair. Call them firecracker strawberries when you first soak them in vodka or skip the alcohol for a kid-friendly fourth of July treat.
Be sure to add our red, white and blue M&M cookie bars to your 4th of July or Memorial Day menu. In keeping with a red white and blue menu theme, be sure to make Blueberry Delight, red velvet rice krispie treats and white trash.

📝 Ingredient notes:
- Strawberries - washed and with the stems still attached
- Marshmallows - large marshmallows
- Vodka - if you are wanting them to be for those 21 and older.
- Colored sugar - blue sugar is what I am using.
🔄 Substitutions
Leave out the vodka if you are not wanting an alcoholic strawberry dessert. Or switch up the alcohol to your favorite spirit. I think 360 double chocolate, kalua or triple sec would make delicious alcohol substitutions. Each one will provide a different and yummy flavor profile for the strawberries.
🔪 How to make Firecracker Strawberries, basic instructions
- Soak clean strawberries in vodka for 1 hour.
- Drain and dry the soaked strawberries while you melt the marshmallows in a microwave-safe bowl until the marshmallows are fluid.
- Dip each strawberry in the marshmallow cream and then into the colored sugar before placing on a clean plate to dry.

- Wash fresh, unblemished strawberries that still have their leaves intact.
- In a medium-sized bowl, cover the strawberries in vodka and soak for 1 hour.
- After 1 hour, drain the strawberries and pat each one dry with a paper towel or lay the berries on a clean, dry towel to dry.
- While the soaked strawberries are drying, melt the marshmallows in the microwave in 30 seconds increments on high, stirring frequently until the marshmallows form a marshmallow cream.
- Using a fork dunk the dry strawberries about two-thirds of the way up the strawberry, leaving the 'shoulders' of the strawberry exposed.
- While the marshmallow is still sticky, dunk the coated strawberry in blue-colored sugar allowing the white marshmallow to still be exposed to keep with the red white and blue these of these strawberries.
- Allow the dipped strawberries to set up before serving them.
❄️ Storage Tips
Make 4th of July strawberries close to the time of serving. Do not store in the refrigerator as the marshmallow cream and the sugar will start to 'weep'. Just store in an air-tight container in a cool, dry place.
📝 Frequently asked questions, answers and tips:
You are looking for marshmallows to have the consistency of melted marshmallows for rice Krispie treats.
Yes! These dipped strawberries can easily be made without alcohol. Just don't soak them before dipping.
Be sure that the strawberries are completely dried before dipping them in the melted marshmallow. A dry surface is needed for the best adhesion of the marshmallow cream.
