- These patriotic cookie bars are the perfect treat for a forth of July picnic or party! They are made on a cookie sheet so this recipe makes enough to feed a crowd quickly and easily! No need to do multiple batches of cookies they all bake at once!

📝 Here's what you need for these cookie bars
- 1 Cup Butter - you can use salted or unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
- 1 ½ Cup Packed Brown Sugar
- ½ Cup White Sugar
- 2 tsp. Vanilla Extract
- 3 Eggs
- 3 Cups Flour
- 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
- 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 2 Cups Red, White & Blue M&M’s (divided)
- 2 Cups Chocolate Chips- You can use milk chocolate chips or semi sweet.
🔪 How to make these Patriotic Cookie Bars
- First preheat your oven to 350 and line a baking sheet (make sure it is a jelly roll style baking sheet with edges all around) with parchment paper. Butter the parchment and sides of the pan, this will keep the cookies from sticking.
- Next the bowl of an electric stand mixer, or in a large bowl add the butter and sugars. Mix with a paddle attachment, or an electric mixer until well blended and light and fluffy.
- Then add in the vanilla extract and the eggs, continue mixing until well incorporated.
- In a separate bowl combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt, whisk until well mixed.
- Add the dry ingredients gradually into the wet ingredients mixing well after each addition. Once the flour mixture is all incorporated you should have a thick cookie dough.
- Now add in chocolate chips and one cup of the M&M’s fold in by hand with a spatula or wooden spoon until evenly distributed.
- Using a spatula or buttered hands spread the dough evenly into your prepared pan.
- Sprinkle reserved 1 cup of M&M’s across the entire surface of the cookie dough.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Allow to cool completely on a cooling rack before cutting into 24 squares with a sharp thin knife.
