    One Pot Skillet Lasagna Recipe

This skillet lasagna has quickly become a favorite quick dinner of mine to make since it's so quick to make. It's the perfect recipe when you're craving comfort food but short on time. It covers all bases with its cheesy goodness and savory meat sauce. So easy and delicious!!

If you love pasta recipes, be sure to check out this cheesy baked rotini pasta, this cheesy goulash and these spaghetti muffins are wonderful too!

    Ingredients needed:

labeled ingredients for an easy skillet lasagna recipe. a jar of spaghetti sauce, raw ground beef, dry bowtie pasta, and small bowls of ricotta cheese parmesan cheese and spices.

Here is a visual overview of the ingredients in the recipe. Scroll down to the recipe at the bottom for quantities.

    • Ground Beef:  I like using 93% lean ground beef. But use your preference.
    • Pasta Sauce: Use your favorite jarred spaghetti sauce or homemade marinara sauce.
    • Bowtie Pasta: A fun alternative to traditional lasagna noodles. They cook perfectly in the skillet. See below for substitution ideas.
    • Garlic Powder & Onion Powder: For extra flavor.
    • Ricotta Cheese: Adds the favorite lasagna creaminess. You can also use small curd cottage cheese.
    • Parmesan Cheese:  Use Romano cheese if you'd like.
    • Egg: Helps to bind the cheese mixture.
    • Fresh Basil or Parsley: an optional topping before serving.

    Substitutions

    1. Swap the ground beef for ground turkey, ground chicken or even ground pork sausage or Italian sausage.
    2. Add in more vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms when browning the meat.
    3. Replace garlic and onion powders with fresh minced garlic and diced onion.
    4. Add a layer of freshly shredded mozzarella cheese just before serving for extra cheesiness.
    5. Sprinkle a little extra Italian seasoning to the sauce if you'd like.
    6. Make it vegetarian by swapping the meat for a plant-based meat alternative or more veggies.

    Tips

    • If adding a mozzarella cheese topping, shred it fresh off a block for the meltiest cheese. Pre-packaged cheeses have an anti-caking agent that keeps it from melting as well.
    • Be careful not to overcook the pasta.

    How to Store Leftovers

Refrigerate: Keep leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days.

Freezing: Freeze in a suitable container for up to 2 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight before reheating.

Reheating: Microwave covered with a paper towel, stirring occasionally until heated through.

    Frequently asked questions

Can I make this recipe ahead of time?

Yes, assemble everything in the skillet, cover, and refrigerate. You can then simply reheat it on low until heated through.  If you make it in an oven safe skillet, place it in the oven cold and then turn on the oven to 350° F and heat until warm.

A simple green salad and/or garlic bread is always  a favorite.

    Ingredients

    • 1 pound ground beef
    • 24 ounces pasta sauce
    • 2 cups Water
    • 12 ounces bowtie pasta
    • 2 teaspoon Garlic Powder
    • 2 teaspoon Onion Powder
    • ½ teaspoon Salt
    • ½ cup parmesan cheese
    • ½ cup ricotta cheese
    • 1 large Egg
    • Fresh basil or parsley chopped, optional

    Instructions

    • In a large skillet, add the raw beef and cook until brown and crumbly.
      1 pound ground beef
    • Drain the cooked beef into a colander over a bowl and return the meat to the pan.
    • Add in the pasta sauce, pasta, water, garlic powder, onion powder and salt to the pan and bring to a boil.
24 ounces pasta sauce, 2 cups Water, 12 ounces bowtie pasta, 2 teaspoon Garlic Powder, 2 teaspoon Onion Powder, ½ teaspoon Salt
    • Then reduce heat to a simmer and cook for 15-17 minutes, until the pasta is just al dente.

      Fresh basil or parsley

    Notes

Use homemade marinara if you'd like.
Swap the ground beef for ground turkey or ground pork or sausage.
Use a different kind of pasta like fusilli (curly noodles), penne pasta or even large macaroni noodles.
Use ½ cup of finely chopped onion and 3 cloves of minced garlic in place of the garlic and onion powder. I would add these in when browning the meat so they have time to soften.
Add other veggies in when sautéing the meat. Diced red or green bell peppers or onions or mushrooms are wonderful additions as well.
Swap the ricotta cheese for an equal amount of small curd cottage cheese.
Add a cup of freshly shredded mozzarella on top just before serving and let it melt for an extra cheesy version.
Store cooled leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
Freeze leftovers for up to 2 months in a freezer safe container.
Reheat in the microwave on a microwave safe plate for 30 seconds, covered with a paper towel. Stir and repeat if necessary until heated through.
