Your family will rave about these twisty breadsticks inspired by the garlic bread twists at Domino's Pizza. We sometimes serve these breadsticks with homemade pizza, but also love them with pasta dishes like baked rotini or soup like pasta fagouli too! They are delicious with Italian food, but can be served with any dish you would serve dinner rolls.

Here is why you'll love these cheesy garlic bread twists:

    • Your home will smell amazing! Homemade bread and homemade chocolate chip cookies baking simply make your home feel (and smell!) extra cozy.
    • Easy to store ingredients. I love keeping recipes like this in my back pocket because I can store the dough in the freezer for a while. Then when I'm ready to make this garlic bread I don't have to run to the store again.
    • Semi-homemade! Listen if making a yeasted roll at all intimidates you, this is the way to go. Get the taste of buttery, fresh homemade garlic bread without having to fuss with from scratch baking.

    Ingredients needed:

    Ingredient notes:

    • ⅓ cup butter, salted softened. If you use the microwave to soften the butter I recommend using half power so you don't melt the butter entirely. If you accidentally melt the butter, simply use a silicone brush to spread the melted butter.
    • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
    • ½ teaspoon garlic powder - you can use fresh garlic (about 2 cloves) or jarred garlic (about 1 teaspoon)
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • 24 pieces frozen roll dough thawed, like Rhodes rolls frozen dough.
    • ½ cup parmesan cheese grated
    • ¼ cup mozzarella cheese shredded

    Substitutions

This recipe is pretty flexible overall, so feel free to experiment based on your own preferences.

You can also use a Pillsburry refrigerated dinner roll dough. A pizza dough can also be used. Keep in mind you'll need about 24 portions of whatever dough you choose.

You can swap the mozzarella cheese for a montery jack, provolone, an Italian blend, or even a cheddar. Any type of melty cheese that can be shredded off the block can be easily used in this recipe.

How to make Herbed Garlic Bread Twists

    • STEP 1 Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Add the butter, Italian seasoning, garlic and salt to a small bowl. Blend together the butter and seasonings with a fork. Set the butter to the side.
    • STEP 2 Lightly flour a clean surface. Flatten one of the dough balls and stretch until about 4 inches long, sprinkling more flour as needed to keep it from sticking.

    • STEP 3 Roll the dough into a long rope. Bring the ends together to create a circle. Then twist the middle of the circle twice so you have a large figure eight shape. Place on the prepared pan and repeat for each piece of dough.

    • STEP 5 Cover the dough loosely with a clean kitchen towel and allow the breadsticks to rise in a warm place for at least 30 minutes.
    • STEP 6 Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Bake the breadsticks for 20 to 22 minutes or until golden. Serve warm, and enjoy!

How Do I Store Leftover Garlic Bread Twists?

Store garlic bread twists in an airtight covered container in the refrigerator. Expect these rolls will last for about 4-5 days if properly stored, but will taste their best when enjoyed fresh.

How Do I Reheat Garlic Bread Twists?

You can easily reheat these garlic bread twists in the microwave for about 15-20 seconds.

Garlic bread can also be reheated in the oven. You can place the breadsticks on a lined pan that has been sprayed with cooking oil. Bake at 325 degrees for 8-10 minutes or until warm.

    Garlic Bread Twists Tips

Putting the dough in the refrigerator the day before can allow it time to fully defrost and rise.

You can also stuff the cheese inside the bread dough if you prefer, and it's delicious!
