How to make Bacon and Baked Beans

Below are visual steps for making bacon and baked beans. See the recipe card for detailed instructions.

Raw bacon pieces cooking in a skillet with a wooden spatula.

    Prepare Bacon

First Preheat the oven to 350°F.

Cut the bacon into small pieces and place in a medium-sized skillet. Cook over medium heat until crispy.

Remove the bacon from the skillet, leaving the drippings, and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain.

Sautéed onions and green peppers in a skillet.

    Sautee Vegetables

Add the diced onions and diced green peppers to the pan with the bacon drippings and saute over medium heat for about 10 minutes or until the onions are translucent and the green peppers have started softening.

Glass mixing bowl with baked beans, crispy bacon, ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, and sautéed onions and bell pepper.

    Combine Ingredients

Pour the baked beans into a large mixing bowl. Then add in the cooked bacon, cooked onions and green peppers, brown sugar, ketchup, mustard, apple cider vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce.

Baked beans spread evenly in a glass baking dish, fresh out of the oven.

    Bake

Stir gently until everything is well incorporated and mixed. Transfer the bean mixture evenly into a 9x13-inch baking pan. Cover with aluminum foil and bake covered for 50 minutes. Then, uncover and continue baking an additional 15-30 minutes until the sauce reaches your desired consistency.

    • Place the pan in the oven and cook covered for 50 minutes. Uncover and continue baking an additional 15-30 minutes depending on how thick you want your baked beans. Less time will result in a thinner sauce and more will thicken the sauce.

The Dijon mustard can be swapped for brown mustard or yellow mustard.
